The Challenge: Create a large, enticing video wall display to grab customers’ attention

In November of 2018, TCL Chinese Theatre opened Theatre Box, an all-encompassing entertainment venue located in San Diego, California. The venue includes a luxury movie theatre, restaurants, bars, and a lobby featuring Sugar Factory, known for its unique foods and desserts and common celebrity appearances.

With plans to create this space, TCL Chinese Theatre wanted the brand-new complex to include digital signage that would wow its customers. To do this, the company decided on creating a video wall display that would be used in the venue’s lobby to show information to guests, such as movie times, trailers, and advertisements. To really make an impact, the display would need to be visible from every angle in the lobby of the venue, as well as through the windows to the street. TCL Chinese Theatre decided to place the video wall directly above the escalators, as this location can be seen far and wide.

The Solution: tvONE’s CORIO®master mini video processing

To achieve the video wall display, the theatre’s San Diego-based management group reached out to Fluid Sound, a local design-build AV integration company, based on its experience in working with high-end theatres and specialization in the design-build process for AV system solutions. Fluid Sound was tasked with the goal of creating custom solutions for Theatre Box that would meet the aggressive grand opening date in just four weeks.

Fluid Sound landed on creating a unique video wall display with the largest monitors possible, 75” displays provided by NEC. The monitors were to be hung on a 45° angle directly over the escalators using Peerless-AV’s special purpose video wall mounts. In order to drive and stream content on the massive, eye-catching video wall, Fluid Sound chose tvONE’s C3-510 CORIOmaster mini modular 4K multi-window 1RU video processor and CORIOgrapher software.

The Result: The versatility and ease of CORIOmaster mini created an impactful & unique video wall

Fluid Sound was able to complete the installation within just four weeks using reliable solutions, including the CORIOmaster mini video wall processor and its easy-to-use creative video wall design software, CORIOgrapher.

CORIOmaster video processors are versatile creative video processors with a modular I/O that provides you with flexibility of any signal in, to any signal out. According to Phil Borkowski, Partner, Fluid Sound,

The versatility of the CORIOmaster hardware satisfied the client’s goal of making the video wall design to be impactful and as unique as possible.

Continuing, Borkowski states, “The ease-of-use of the tvONE CORIOgrapher software allowed the digital signage content for the video wall to be easily configured and meet the accelerated installation & delivery timeline of the overall video wall project.” CORIOgrapher software allows you to rotate sources and displays with complete 360⁰ rotation, mix and match display types, create overlaps or edge-blends, and automatically corrects for display size and bezels.

Since the completion of the project, Theatre Box customers have commented on the beautiful presentation of the video wall, and the theatre has been able to entice many outside visitors with views of the stunning displays.
