Basics

1. What is CORIOview?

CORIOview is a powerful 4K multiviewer using a single output up to 4K30 or cloned outputs up to 1080P. The system can accept up to 4x 4K30 inputs or 2x 4K60 and up to 8x HDMI or SDI inputs up to 1080P.

2. Is CORIOview a PC?

No, it's a hardware device based on FPGA technology and therefore will boot up quickly and won't complain if it's powered off by accident. It won't crash with an annoying blue screen or lock up and it cannot be hacked in the same way as a computer so it is more secure. You can connect to a network for control purposes but in this case you can connect to CORIOview via an HTTPS connection for secure communication.

Control

3. How can I control CORIOview?

There are several different ways to control a CORIOview. You can use it straight out of the box with almost no configuration by using its front panel buttons but you can also use a special dashboard in CORIOgrapher (set up and control software that comes free with your CORIOview), use our programmable control panel (1T-CL-322), or you can even make use of CORIOviews extensive range of API commands and control it from a third party device like a Crestron controller for example.

4. What is CORIOgrapher?

CORIOgrapher is the powerful free software that comes with your CORIOview. It enables you to set up your CORIOview in the way that you would like and also allows you to control the functionality of CORIOview using a touch screen enabled interface.

5. Can I communicate with CORIOview over a network with more than one control device?

Yes, up to four users connected at once.

6. Why don’t you use a USB dongle to connect my laptop to a CORIOview?

These are cool to use but they are expensive and so usually a limited number are available. They really only work with PC's and often require files to be stored on your computer to work properly. They communicate wirelessly so you need to be nearby the base unit for them to work well and they usually only send the resolution of your laptop screen to the display. You need the right type of USB or you would need an adapter which may be part of the docking cable you left at home. CORIOview uses standard cables that can easily and cheaply be replaced if damaged or lost. This also means nothing needs to be installed on your computer and you can be far away from the display if you want. You can also use the full resolution of your output which is often higher that your laptop screen.

7. My CORIOview will be far away from my laptop when I use it. How can I manage that?

A normal HDMI cable will work up to around 10 Meters with no issues but you can use one of our AOC (active optical cables) to reach up to 100 Meters away. Alternatively you can use an HDBaseT input module and HDMI to HDBaseT Transmitter (HD-One Series / MG-WP-661 Series) to connect to your CORIOview over a normal network cable. An HDBaseT output module is also available as an option if your CORIOview is far from your display device. We have a wide range of other options within our range of extension products including fiber.

8. Can I connect my CORIOview to a network?

Yes, CORIOview can be configured and controlled over a network.

9. How secure is my network connection to CORIOview?

You can connect to CORIOview using HTTP or securely using HTTPS.

10. Will CORIOgrapher work on a MAC computer?

No, currently it only works with PC devices however we do plan to add MAC, Linux and Android capability to CORIOgrapher in the future.

11. Can I mute my audio and video output from a CORIOview during a meeting for example?

Yes, you can do this by one button press or one command using the supplied software, CORIOgrapher, or using an API command from a third part controller or PC.

12. Does CORIOview handle audio?

Yes, CORIOview can handle embedded audio from any input to the output and also audio can breakout to an external amplifier or other device via S/PDIF.

Modularity

13. Is CORIOview modular?

Yes, there are three configurable module slots in a CORIOview with one being an output and the other two being inputs. There are a number of pre-configured options but there is also a MTO (made-to-order) option which is freely configurable.

14. How many inputs can I have?

You can have up to 8 inputs and as few as 2 inputs depending upon the modules you choose.

15. How many outputs can I have?

CORIOview has one output module. If there are more connectors on this module than 1 then all of these will have an identical output signal; in other words they are cloned. This may be good in situations where you have more than one display and you would have otherwise needed to purchase a distribution amplifier.

16. What is clone?

CORIOview only has one output but with output modules that sometime have two connectors the second one is always a clone of the first one. This means that you can drive two displays and removing the need to install a distribution amplifier.

17. Can I get more than 8 inputs?

Not with a single CORIOview but the devices can be daisy-chained allowing up to 64 full HD inputs to 1 output by using 9x CORIOviews. As CORIOview is a very low latency device with typically 1 and maximum two frames of latency through the system, even daisy-chained you wont see any noticeable delay in the signal.

18. Input types

HDMI, SDI, DVI-U, HDBT, IP, Media Playback

19. Does it support SDI?

Yes, we can accept up to 8x 3GSDI inputs.

20. What's the RU size of CORIOview?

It's 1/2 rack wide and 1U (rack unit) high.

21. How do I mount CORIOview?

It's flexible; you can sit it on a tabletop or use one of our many mounting bracket options to install it under a tabletop, in a rack on its own, or side by side with a second 1/2 U unit or mount to a blade for our ONErack product.

22. Can I upgrade my CORIOview in the field?

CORIOview is not meant to be field upgradeable by the end user, but additional modules can be installed in to any free slots by a qualified technician.

23. Does it have fans inside?

Yes, there are cooling fans as this is a very powerful 4K processor but these are temperature controlled and very quiet in normal operation.

Software

29. Can I program custom layouts with CORIOview?

In Dynamic mode you can re-configure the presets to change the layout positions, but you cannot create new layouts with different window positions or sizes in either mode. CORIOview is designed to be easy to use and require minimal or no configurations right out of the box. If you need more customization of window positions and sizes try moving to one of our CORIOmaster products.

30. What is Auto Layout?

In Dynamic mode auto layout works when you plug in an input. Doing so will automatically trigger a preset to change the display layout, so one input gives you a fullscreen image and two will trigger a preset to create two side by side windows with your sources displayed instantly.

31. If Dynamic mode is ideal for meeting rooms why can't I connect to it wirelessly?

CORIOview is designed to use a wide range of inputs from any source that can be plugged in or streamed to the unit. We don't use wireless transmission because we want to output the highest quality of images to the display device and do this in the smoothest and fastest way possible. Wireless communication can be temperamental and often sends a lower resolution output than you source device is capable of via its 2nd display output port. Wireless is also usable for laptops but what if you want to connect a Blu-ray player, camera or other device? CORIOviews cable connectivity and dynamic capability ensure fast smooth switching between presenters every time.

32. Can I store video files and still pictures in my CORIOview for presentation?

Yes, you can do this using the 4K and streaming media module. You can choose a module with either a 16Gb or 128Gb SSD drive on-board to store video files and still images and use playlists to play them through to an output. There are two outputs from each module and two modules can be fitted to a CORIOview if required.

33. What about IP streams?

Yes, you can decode up to 2x IP streams at the same time per module using the 4K streaming media and playback module.

34. Does CORIOview get free upgrades like a CORIOmaster?

Yes, we may add new features to CORIOview in the future and these can be easily downloaded from our website and used to upgrade your unit over a network. These upgrades are free of charge.

42. Do you have a streaming encoder that I can use with CORIOview?

Yes we have one in our range, the Encoder-100.

43. What is the difference between the Classic and Dynamic modes of a CORIOview?

Classic mode is the default mode for CORIOview out of the box. In this mode CORIOview acts like a more traditional multiviewer where inputs are mapped to outputs and preset layouts are used to determine how many outputs appear on a single display and how these outputs are arranged. Classic mode also has additional features such as the ability to set the color and size of window borders and the ability to rotate the output video to drive displays in both portrait and landscape arrangements. Dynamic mode gives a very easy to use out of box experience with very intuitive controls and very few if any configuration. Dynamic mode also gives you control to change the preset configuration of layouts. Both modes provide all other features of a CORIOview including its elegant, smooth and fast switching and transitions.
